Welcome to one of our three "It’s All About You" interviews, designed to help you
live better with psoriasis. Join us as Alice Speight, a cosmetologist and a psoriasis
educator, answers questions on the topic of "Fashion and Beauty."
So, how can I jazz up my boring wardrobe of long sleeves, long skirts, and pants?
If you’re tired of long sleeves and pants, try jazzing up your wardrobe by layering
some of your clothing. You can take a short sleeved shirt and put it underneath
a cardigan. Sometimes in trying to avoid wearing black, this could be the time
to do that. You can put a short sleeved black shell underneath a long sleeved lighter
color top. As far as shorts and short skirts, we can always pair those up with opaque
tights. They help to disguise everything. And if you just want to go with shorts,
you can definitely try a khaki pair of shorts or a bone colorsomething that’s
going to be the same flesh tone and won’t draw attention to it.
When I’m deciding what to wear, which is better -- patterns or solids?
A small pattern is the best to wear to disguise flaking. The best pattern of course is a tweed because it has small white flecks and a knotty texture.
I also want to redo my makeup. What are some tricks for drawing attention to my
eyes and my lips and away from my skin?
Your eyes and lips are your two best features. Use some bold colors. Look at the new trends. Compliment your complexion.
A massage and a new hairstyle are also on my list. How do I find a massage therapist
and hairstylist I’m comfortable with?
To find a massage therapist or hairstylist, your best bet is word of mouth. If you
know someone that’s already suffering from psoriasis, they may have somebody already
well trained. If not, it’s up to you to let the person know that you have psoriasis,
and to let them understand what you’re having to deal with.
Thank you for these tips. These will definitely help me update my style.
